Newstone Law LLP is not a law firm and is not authorised or regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Christian Balderstone [SRA: 7007432] and Rory Newman [SRA: 7019400] are solicitors regulated by the SRA, but the services of Newstone Law LLP are not regulated legal services. You will not have access to the SRA Compensation Fund, and Newstone Law LLP is not required to hold SRA-compliant professional indemnity insurance. We do not undertake reserved legal activities, including the conduct of litigation or rights of audience, and we do not hold client money.

What this means for you

Christian Balderstone and Rory Newman are solicitors of England and Wales and are each regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in their personal capacity. Newstone Law LLP is not authorised by the SRA, and the services it provides are not regulated legal services.

  • Professional conduct. You can report concerns about the professional conduct of either solicitor to the SRA. You cannot complain to the SRA about Newstone Law LLP itself.
  • Legal Ombudsman. If you are unhappy with the legal services provided by one of our solicitors, you may be able to complain to the Legal Ombudsman if you are not satisfied with our response, or if eight weeks have passed since you complained to us. See our complaints page.
  • SRA Compensation Fund. The Compensation Fund can make payments to people who have lost money because of the dishonesty of, or a failure to account for money by, an SRA-authorised firm or the people working in it. Because Newstone Law LLP is not regulated by the SRA, you will not be able to make a claim on the Fund.
  • Professional indemnity insurance. Firms authorised by the SRA must hold professional indemnity insurance on the SRA’s minimum terms and conditions. Newstone Law LLP is not authorised by the SRA, so that requirement does not apply to it. Newstone Law LLP holds professional indemnity insurance. Details of the cover are available on request.
  • Reserved legal activities. We do not conduct litigation, exercise rights of audience or carry out any other reserved legal activity. Where these are needed, we work with your chosen solicitors and counsel.
  • Client money. We do not hold client money. We will never ask you to pay money to us to be held on your behalf.
