Our firm

Your position comes first.

Whether the task is protecting family wealth, resolving a tax issue, recovering what is owed or defending a claim, we give a clear view of where you stand and a practical, commercially workable solution you can act on.

Who we are

Litigation experience and private wealth expertise under one roof.

Newstone Law LLP is led by Rory Newman and Christian Balderstone, both solicitors of England and Wales.

Christian leads our litigation and dispute resolution practice. He advises companies, directors, shareholders and individuals on high-value commercial disputes, civil fraud and asset recovery, cross-border enforcement and shareholder disputes.

Rory leads our tax, private client and private wealth practice. He advises wealthy individuals, families, trustees and businesses on how their wealth is held, how it moves and how it passes between generations, and on enquiries and disputes with HMRC.

We provide specialist legal advice and strategic support. We do not conduct litigation or appear in court on our clients’ behalf. Where proceedings need to be issued or a party formally represented, we work with you and with your chosen solicitors or counsel to make sure your case is properly prepared and well directed.

Our partners have worked on proceedings in the High Court, including the Commercial Court and what is now the Business and Property Division, the Court of Appeal and the UK Supreme Court, and in the tax tribunals. That experience shapes the advice we give long before any hearing.

Working with your solicitors and counsel

Where we fit in a contested matter.

We advise on merits, value and strategy. We identify the evidence that matters, advise on whether urgent interim remedies such as freezing orders are available and appropriate, and prepare correspondence, including letters before claim.

When proceedings are issued, your chosen solicitors go on the court record and conduct the litigation, and counsel appears at hearings. We continue to advise you and to work with them throughout, so that the strategy settled at the outset carries through to the result.

If you do not yet have solicitors or counsel in place, we can discuss the options with you.

Our network

The right specialists, brought in when needed.

We work closely with highly experienced forensic accountants and with foreign-qualified lawyers in a number of jurisdictions. Forensic accountants trace funds, quantify losses and value businesses and claims. Lawyers overseas advise on local law and take the steps needed in their own courts, from preserving assets to enforcing judgments.

We bring them in when a matter calls for it and coordinate their work with ours, so that you receive one consistent strategy rather than separate pieces of advice.
