Profile
Rory Newman is a Partner at Newstone Law and leads its tax, private client and private wealth practice. He advises wealthy individuals, families, trustees and businesses on the structuring of wealth across borders, and on civil fraud and asset recovery, debt recovery, and winding up and bankruptcy, particularly where a financial dispute and a tax position meet.
His private client work concerns how assets are held, how they move and how they pass from one generation to the next. It routinely connects UK taxation with offshore trusts, foreign holdings, treaty relief and reporting obligations, so that each structure is built around the client wherever the family, its assets or its trustees are located.
His background is in contentious tax work. At Chancery Court Tax Chambers, Gray’s Inn, his experience covered tax and VAT fraud, tax-related insolvency, the management of tax debt and disguised remuneration. That work gives him a practical understanding of how financial disputes develop, how creditors and HMRC pursue recovery, and what options are open to those on the receiving end.
The same experience shapes his approach to tax structuring. Arrangements are designed on the footing that HMRC may one day examine them, and built to withstand that scrutiny.
Rory began his career in corporate and commercial practice in the City of London. He read law at the University of Exeter, then completed a Master’s in Legal Practice at BPP Law School and passed the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1 and SQE2). He was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in 2025.
He aims to give clients advice they can act on, without leaving them to manage the detail themselves.
